Spicy Split White Lentils without Skin | Delicious Recipe

Today we are going to make delicious split white lentils without skin. Lentils have a lot of nutritional value as they are a rich source of proteins. This recipe is very yummy and easy to make. So let's get started. 

Ingredients

  • 300g split white lentils without skin, washed and soaked for 4-6 hrs in warm water 
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 large tomato, chopped
  • 1/4 cup of cooking oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp ginger/ garlic paste 
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder 
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder 
  • 1 tsp turmeric 
  • Fresh coriander chopped for garnish
  • 3 green chillies
  • 1/4 + 1/2 cup water

Cooking Method

Take oil in a cooking pot. Add chopped onions. Sauté the onions on medium heat until golden brown in color. Once the onions turn golden brown in color, add ginger/ garlic paste and cumin seeds. Sauté until fragrant. Once ginger/ garlic become fragrant, add tomato paste, chopped tomatoes and 1/4 cup of water and mix. Put the lid on and cook the tomatoes for 4-6 minutes or until soft.

Once the tomatoes are cooked, add salt, red chilli powder, turmeric, cumin powder and coriander powder. Mix well. Then add washed and soaked lentils and green chillies and mix. Keep stirring and cooking on medium heat for 4-6 minutes.

Now add half cup of water and mix. Put the lid on and reduce the heat to low and let the lentils cook for 30-45 minutes or until completely soft.

After 30 minutes, the lentils have been cooked completely. Turn the heat off. Now add freshly chopped coriander. Delicious split white lentils are now ready to serve.
